I'm analysing the title sequence from the film Se7en. This is the first shot we get and from this we can see that the film company New Line Cinema are distributing it. If anyone, watching the film, knows this company they will know that it has distributed other films such as The Final Destination films and the Lord Of the Rings sequels. This straight away indicates what type of film this can be. It is a clue into what genre the film will be. Of course this is also the first image we see and it is a book. A book suggests mystery and a story to be told. A book can only be read when it is opened so this suggests to me that in this film there needs to be a trigger for the tale to begin. The book isn't in focus and this could implement a blurred vision- not knowing what is going on.
Here is the first name shown on the title sequence. The white text is contrasted against the black background and this could be to represent bad and good. Black is usually associated with dark scary things where as white represents clouds and doves. They're juxtaposed against each other. This could give an indication that the film is based on the good and the bad. The writing is also messy and smudged and this could represent how something can go wrong. The writing also isn't in a straight line so this gives some indication that this film isn't going to be straight and simple.
This is an image that we presume is inside the book on the previous shot. These hands are obviously not normal hands because they're odd looking. They look old and very worn. The fingers are bent in ways that look unnatural and it is very noticeable. The pages of the book are yellowed and this suggests it is an old book. This book is a boom from the past and this could have some relation to when the film is set or it could be foreboding the storyline. maybe this film will breach into the past. There is also a dark red strip down the middle of the book and this could have several connotations. It could represent blood or danger or both. This is also the first vivid colour we have seen throughout this title sequence and that has some significance. A shadow also crosses the screen which could be seen as someone or something passing the light to create this effect.
This image shows a razor blade and when not in a shaver has dark connotations to it. It is used to cut things, yourself or other people. It is being played with in someone's fingers and this in itself is a dangerous thing to do. It just looks creepy. The fingers of this person are dirty and this creates mystery as to why his fingers are dirty. I saw his because these fingers are presumed to be a males. They're stubby and not delicate as a women's should be. The nails are cut short which suggests this person is a manual kind of person so they need to use their hands a lot.
This image is shown between two shots of something blurred and unrecognisable. The fact that this image is not blurred shows that this on is the most important and needs to be seen. It is on for half a second and wouldn't be seen if someone were to blink. This image is in black and white and almost looks like a sketch. This person is over weight and their face looks almost contorted. He looks in a great deal of pain and his eyes are shut tight and clenched. This image is confusing and the first image of someone we have seen throughout. If this film was a happy feel good kind of film then surely there would be an image of something more uplifting than this. This image suggests that this film isn't going to be a nice one.
The title of the film is shown 3 times in the messy writing used beforehand. It shown off centre and small and then off centre and big and then small again. All the while it is flickering. This could represent how this film is going to be confusing and slightly put you on edge. The titles have a shadow of the word behind them and it lets the mind create suspicions such as if that were a person, would they have someone behind them? As their shadow? When the title jumps to being big it could also be foreboding the film slightly. Are things going to jump out?
