Props/Costumes photos, planning + research (Violet)

We hope to portray characters qualities through their dress code in our film. As each character in our films is different, we hope we can reflect them all individually, and so everybody shall be wearing different costumes to display a true reflection of their personalities.

As shown in this image, Violet's dress code include mainly dark colours. She likes to layer her clothing so that not a lot of skin can be seen. Violet's whole look appeals to a darker kind of person as she would probably stereotype herself as gothic. Aspects to contribute to this include detailed earrings, a nose ring, multiple necklaces and rings that have strong connotations towards religion.

Violet's make-up is heavy white facial powder to create a white and pale tone to contrast her dark outfits. She uses a range of lipsticks from dark blue to black, also to contrast her pale face. Heavy eye shadow and mascara are also used. Violet's hair varies, sometimes she has her hair up, in the our filming, we plan for Violet's hair to have a full cut fringe like the given image. She will be wearing a long black skirt coupled with a long sleeved black top and heavy duty black boots for their camping trip.
We are hoping that all aspects of her hair, make-up and costume reflect a serious and religious personality.

The way that Violet dresses and acts, we consider that she may fall under the category or stereotype of a 'witch'.
We looked into certain types of films that involve witches and characters that quite resemble Violet.
We found a film called 'The Craft'. It is mainly considered a drama, but it also has now been classed as a horror because of the satanic type rituals that these 4 teenage girls conduct and some of the activities that they get into.
Most of the characters in the film wear either black or grey. With tendencies to wear white shirts but that is the basis of their clothing.

Although these character's clothing isn't exactly the exact replicar that we would like Violet's character to wear we are using them as a base. In the first image we see that all of the girls are wearing long dark skirts. This is a definite aspect that we want to import when deciding Violet's outfits because we think that it adds very well to her personality and would give off the right aura from Violet and you would receive the image that we are trying to portray from Violet's character.
The second picture involves the kind of jewellery that are considering for Violets character. The choker especially is very conventional for a gothic stereotype and it is quite important to almost over exaggerate with the costumes in films to get your point across and make the character obvious. The earrings that are in the shape of crucifixes also exaggerate her cult based personality and dress sense.
